THREADS LACE AND TIME
The bench is installed at the Whitchurch Silk MillI live just over the fields from Steventon and often walk
in the places that Jane Austen would have known.
Our lives seem somehow connected because of this, somehow woven together.
Watching lace being made at the Jane Austen House Museum evoked thoughts of the
invisible threads that connect us all and this 'threads' idea became a unifying motif
for the bench design.
It's great to be given this opportunity especially since Austen's work seems to me to
try to give a voice to the "unheard", something that I strive to do myself.
